Medical and Safety Disclaimer
Effective date: 19 August 2026
Read this before your first training session. Electrical muscle stimulation affects your body directly. Used incorrectly, it can cause serious harm.
1. Not a medical device, not medical advice
XREMS EMS Remote is a fitness and training application. It is not a medical device within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2017/745 or the Swiss Medical Devices Ordinance (MedDO), is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and provides no medical advice.
Nothing in the app substitutes for consultation with a physician or a qualified trainer. Training suggestions, programs and statistics are general information, not individual recommendations.
2. Do not use EMS if any of the following apply
Consult a physician before your first session. Do not train if you:
- wear a cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator or any other implanted electronic device
- are pregnant or may be pregnant
- have epilepsy or any seizure disorder
- have a heart condition, arrhythmia, or a circulatory disorder
- have a cancer diagnosis or are undergoing cancer treatment
- have an acute infection, fever or inflammation
- have thrombosis, a history of thrombosis, or arteriosclerosis
- have an abdominal or inguinal hernia
- have undergone surgery within the last 6 to 8 weeks
- have metal implants in the area being stimulated
- have open wounds, burns, eczema or skin disease in the area being stimulated
- have a bleeding disorder or take anticoagulant medication
- have a neurological condition or impaired sensation
- have kidney disease or impaired kidney function
- have diabetes mellitus with nerve damage
- are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication affecting perception
- are under 18 years of age
This list is not exhaustive. When in doubt, ask your doctor.
3. Risk of rhabdomyolysis
Whole-body EMS produces far more intense muscle contraction than voluntary training. Overexertion can cause rhabdomyolysis — the breakdown of muscle tissue, releasing myoglobin into the bloodstream, which can lead to acute kidney failure.
To reduce the risk:
- Beginners: no more than one session per week for the first eight weeks.
- Keep at least 48 hours between sessions, longer if you still feel sore.
- Drink plenty of water before, during and after training.
- Do not train after an unusually hard conventional workout.
- Do not train when dehydrated, ill or sleep-deprived.
- Increase intensity gradually. More is not better.
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience dark or cola-coloured urine, severe or unusually persistent muscle pain, muscle swelling, weakness, nausea or reduced urine output after a session. These are warning signs of rhabdomyolysis and require urgent treatment.
4. During training
- Stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, palpitations or any unexpected sensation.
- Never place electrodes over the front of the neck (carotid sinus), the head, directly over the heart, or across the chest from side to side.
- Do not use in water, in a shower or in a sauna.
- Do not use while driving or operating machinery.
- Keep the device's own controls within reach so you can stop the session independently of the app.
- If you use Remote Control, make sure you can stop the session yourself at any time.
5. Your responsibility
You use the app and your EMS equipment at your own risk. By using them you confirm that you have read this disclaimer, that no contraindication in section 2 applies to you, and that you have obtained medical clearance where appropriate.
We accept no liability for harm resulting from disregarding these warnings, from improper use of the equipment, or from training against medical advice. The liability provisions in section 6 of the Terms of Use apply — in particular, our liability for personal injury caused by our negligence remains unlimited.
